Los asuntos globales también son asuntos locales: son globales en cuanto a su alcance, pero son las comunidades locales las que los experimentan de distintas maneras. Por ejemplo, la contaminación de una zona afecta a la capa de ozono en otra parte; las inundaciones en zonas agrícolas no solo arruinan el entorno natural y la economía locales, sino que también afectan a los mercados mundiales y provocan oleadas de migración.
