Marevivo is a non-profit environmental association (ONLUS) that protects the sea and its resources for over 35 years. In particular, it is focused on biodiversity conservation, sustainable development, enhancement and promotion of marine protected areas, pollution and illegal fishing. Additionally, it promotes education in schools and universities.
The president and founder of the organization is Rosalba Giugni. She is the daughter of shipowners as well as a scuba diver and Naples, her hometown. She states that: “In my veins runs sea not blood, this is why I set up Marevivo.”
She remembers observing the first signs of pollution 35 years ago when on the marvelous island of Capri foams and plastic started showing up. That is when she realized that she would not turn her back on the problem, so she started with straightforward actions such as beach clean-ups.
Today Marevivo relies on the work of hundreds of volunteers and thousands of members scattered all over Italy. It has diving, sailing, canoe & kayak, beaches and shore divisions.
"Together, we can change the value system of our society, to truly understand and feel the unbreakable bond that links us to the sea".

Marevivo took the chance to call on governments and international organizations to put the sea at the center of concrete and urgent actions, ensuring human and economic resources to maintain the good health of the seas. Among the proposals to mitigate the plastic problem in the sea, Marevivo presented its project to install waste collection systems directly at the mouths of rivers.
